Global warming is a conspiracy to get rid of Cuba.
Ashley, on hurricanes and Cuba
Found out why Ashley was freaking

So congress can’t decide on the budget, and someone thinks it is ok for them to pay the military only half until they get their shit straight, then pay back pay or whatever. Either way, Justin is only getting half a paycheck and bills are due so Ashley was a little stressed. It will all be ok.

I am still in the process of getting settled into my new room with Ashley and Justin, and today we hung some shelves for extra storage. I restore and sell vintage cameras, and these pretty new shelves will allow me to show my inventory off some… (I love looking at them!)

The shelves are pretty simple, but I think that is why I like them so much. They are reclaimed wood and simple supports. The supports were painted teal because I lurve teal, and it looks pretty nice with the wood. :)

Shelves: They exist where there were no shelves before.

Yep, Ashley hung them for me :) I spray painted the brackets a lovely shade of teal and they look fabulous against the yellowed wooden planks. Pics to come!

Acorn Squash and first impressions

So far so good in the land of Florida. My room is nice and put together, simple yet clean, and I am having fun with my new roomies Ashley (the bestie) and Justin, her husband. Ashley took me to see the campus of UWF and it has changed a lot since I was there last. I never took any art classes there, so she toured me all over the art facilities (which are older, but well designed and stocked) and showed me where they installed a hidden Starbucks, perfecto. I am going to be following her around for the rest of the semester so I can get to know the faculty and their processes, this way I can jump in easily when I start classes.

Tonight I am cooking. Justin bought the wrong kind of squash when he went to the grocery store, and since Ashley doesn’t know how to make acorn squash I offered to cook some up for them. It is being cooked in halves with butter, brown sugar, maple syrup and cinnamon mixed inside and it is being served with pork chops and salad. Oh, there are chopped pecans in the squash, too. Delicious.

Panama City Beach with Kathleen & Andrew

Today Ashley, Justin and myself loaded up Justin’s car and took off to Panama City to spend the day with Ashley’s friend Kathleen, who just might be the prettiest person I have ever seen in real life. The water was chilly, but the sun wasn’t too hot and the weather was perfect. Panama City has beaches much like Destin’s, so we enjoyed sugar white sands and gorgeous crystal clear teal and aqua waters. We hung out at the beach under Ashley’s snazzy new pop up tent until lunch time, then we headed over to Dirty Dick’s Crab Shack for some over prices and blah food. There was actually a t-shirt for sale there that read “I got crabs from Dirty Dicks.” Several versions of wtf-face were made to accompany my pointing.

After lunch we visited a dirt track and rode around in some dune buggies! I tagged along with Kathleen and she drove it like a bat out of he’ll and it was Amazing! It was a race and her husband managed to beat us, and when he passed us we mush have yelled pretty loudly because the track supervisors were all cackling at us every time we drove by them…..

It was a fantastic day! I really regret leaving my camera at home, but I thought it was just a beach trip and didn’t want to risk the sand. I will keep it in the car just in case.. No matter what! Lesson learned!

Moving.

I have been fortunate enough to lead a life that has taken me to many exotic places, fed me many unique foods, and just generally left me making “eeeeeee!” noises from excitement. Lucky for me it is the simple things that make life fantastic. Having friends that can enjoy sitting around a table listening to old vinyl while baking gluten free cookies, yet can still drink like they’re paid to do it and who can drop some impressive beats from their mouths while stumbling (in step) with arms around one another for balance all the way home.

Around 9am and 5pm the light is just perfect. It makes everything in the world look magical, and no matter where you point your camera, something fabulous is going to jump inside of it when you release the shutter.

Kitties. Mango is my partner in crime, and wherever I am, I know he is holding the fort down for me until I get back.

Photography. What can I even say about it? It is always there. I always have a camera in my hand. Even if I don’t have my ultra huge and heavy phallic symbol hanging from my left shoulder, I will have my cell phone camera, so regardless of machine, the moments are captured.

Pretty food. Don’t lie, you like pretty food, too. Even you mens out there. Mens like pretty food as much as anyone else.

So that brings me to my title. Moving. I am going to Florida to finish my degree. I feel it is the best decision for me right now. I get to spend time with my Ashley, finish my degree, (which as much as I know a great portfolio is more important than a paper, I still need that paper. I want it, it will be mine.) and soak up some Florida sun.

Ashley is about as creative as another human being can possibly be, and when paired we are quite the artsy fartsy team. I am hoping that this summer will be full of sun, art, building things, taking pictures, diet orange soda, kitties, possibly a giant bunny, and smiles. Oh, and I am going to lose 20 lbs. Gonna ride a bike everywhere. It’s going to happen.

Activity? Packing.

I had chips and verde salsa for dinner. Yeah. It was delicious.
